Hotspring Develops Leading Hybrid AI + Manual Workflows for Roto and Unveils Brand New 2.0 Interface
17.4.26Hotspring is a first of its kind VFX creative services studio providing Roto, Paint and Tracking services for Film, TV and Advertising. It’s set apart by its development and integration of cutting edge AI tools to radically speed up and reduce cost across these VFX services on selected projects.
Already being used in mainstream productions, this hybrid workflow uses Slapshot AI outputs as a base layer for Roto then employs skilled artists to take the shots to final. On certain shots, this can cut in half both the time and cost of completing the work manually. Hotspring has developed these AI tools in house and is now deploying them on selected real world projects in Advertising and Film and TV.
The newly unveiled Hotspring 2.0 interface is designed for those people actually charged with managing multiple shots across projects of all sizes. It centralises what can be a fragmented process that is typically managed through email chains and spreadsheets and provides users with everything they need in one place.
The newly unveiled Hotspring 2.0 represents a fundamental break from traditional production models, now used by 7 of the 10 leading creative studios, including Untold Studios, Selected Works, ETC, Time Based Arts and Coffee & TV; it signals broad adoption of its production approach within high-end VFX pipelines.
Hotspring artists have worked on some of the most recognisable and high-pressure advertising campaigns in the global market, with recurring involvement in major seasonal productions for such brands as John Lewis, Audible and Coca Cola alongside work with worldwide streaming platforms including Netflix, Apple, Paramount and Warner.
Alongside this, the platform has recently been approved to work on Disney Tier 1 workflows across Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar, reinforcing its position at both ends of the production spectrum, global franchise filmmaking and high-intensity commercial delivery.
Hotspring 2.0 is designed for secure, fast and reliable VFX support services. The platform introduces a redesigned, more interactive production interface that removes friction across the entire workflow lifecycle. With improved project and financial dashboards, plus thumbnails of every shot with all metadata , managing complex, large scale shows is a lot easier.
Hotspring Managing Director Ben Stallard comments, “We are the only VFX support studio to develop and integrate AI tools into our pipeline, meaning that on certain projects, we can offer a hybrid roto solution that drives massive savings both in time and money. This means we can do more work, hire more artists and deliver the best value for our clients. Meanwhile our platform provides the tools and security needed on every project. Our recent Disney certification proves this..”
Hotspring Founder and CEO Jon Mason adds, “The industry has spent too long trying to adapt old studio systems to new production realities. Hotspring was built to remove that friction entirely. Hotspring 2.0 is not building on these old workflows, it is infrastructure for how production actually operates today.”
This reflects a wider breakdown of legacy VFX operating models, as remote collaboration, AI-assisted processes and distributed talent pools move from experimental to standard practice.
As Hotspring Managing Director Ben Stallard concludes, “We will build on our 6 years of experience of delivering the highest quality work for our clients. By carefully integrating our own in house AI tools onto specific projects, with the blessing of our clients, we are confident we can grow our business while delivering roto and other VFX services faster and at a more competitive cost than anyone, anywhere.”
